Canal Winchester Arbor Day Celebration April 26

The city of Canal Winchester and Canal Winchester Local Schools will come together Friday, April 26th at approximately 2:15 p.m. to celebrate Arbor Day at Indian Trail Elementary, 6767 Gender Rd.  Students will plant a tree on the school grounds and then learn about the history of Arbor Day.

Canal Winchester Mayor Michael Ebert will present an Arbor Day Proclamation following the commemorative tree planting.  The celebration will last approximately one hour.  As long as there are no severe weather warnings, Arbor Day activities will proceed rain or shine.

“We want to help teach everyone about the importance of tree canopy coverage.  Trees help filter and slow stormwater, which is very important in urban areas,” said Dick Miller, Canal Winchester’s Urban Forester.

The city coordinates Arbor Day events through the Street Tree Advisory Board, a five member panel of Canal Winchester residents who have worked to preserve, protect and enhance trees and plants throughout the community since the early 1990s.
