Organizers of the 98th Annual Canal Winchester Labor Day Festival are pleased to announce that local Korean War Veterans will be honored as Parade Grand Marshals for the 2018 Canal Winchester Labor Day Parade. Grand Marshal parade transportation will be provided by Easton Town Center's Easton Trolley. The parade, themed “A Magical Disney Labor Day”, is scheduled to begin in downtown Canal Winchester on Monday, September 3rd at 1:00 p.m.
“Every year, our Labor Day Committee nominates and votes for deserving candidates to be the Parade Grand Marshal. This year, we chose to honor our veterans from the Korean War. The Canal Winchester Labor Day committee recognizes them for their commitment to our country,” said Mayor Michael Ebert. “In addition to a special Korean War Memorial which will be on display at Festival, we’re pleased to recognize these deserving veterans as this year’s Labor Day Parade Grand Marshals.”
Labor Day Festival activities kick off on Saturday, September 1st and continue through Monday, September 3rd. In addition to the Labor Day Parade and the Korean War Memorial, festival attractions will include live entertainment, a car show, ice cream social, midway rides, and more! The Korean War was the first military conflict of the Cold War era. The United States military suffered over 30,000 deaths, and more than 7,000 American soldiers remain unaccounted for. Although an armistice agreement was signed in 1953, a peace treaty has yet to be adopted.
