Description of Services
The City of Canal Winchester Public Works Department provides many of the basic services that affect the daily lives of everyone who lives and works in Canal Winchester. Primarily, the department is responsible for all the things residents sometimes take for granted: the administration, planning, maintenance and construction management of the citys infrastructure.

This includes the production and distribution of over 250 million gallons of drinking water per year and the collection and treatment of over 370 million gallons per year of wastewater. It also includes the maintenance of the citys over 100 lane miles of streets, over 585 storm water manholes, over 1170 storm water inlets, over 500 street name and traffic control signs, over 465 fire hydrants and traffic signals at over 13 intersections. Also, over 36 miles of storm water pipe, over 36 miles of water main and 3 water towers, over 1057 sewer manholes, over 54 miles of sewer mains and 11 pumping stations and buildings and grounds maintenance including all city park land.

The Public Works Department is staffed with a trained work force of approximately 18 employees under the leadership of Matthew Peoples. The annual operating budget of the department is approximately $ 8.5 million. Operating funds are derived from a number of sources including user fees, utility charges and General Fund revenue. The department is also responsible for implementing the storm water, street, wastewater and water programs.
The responsibilities of the Public Works department are distributed among five divisions: Street, Water, Water Reclamation, Storm Water and Urban Forestry.
