Description of Services
The Canal Winchester Division of Water is dedicated to providing a safe and adequate supply of water to the citizens of Canal Winchester for public consumption and fire protection in the most efficient and reliable manner for the present and future and to meet all Federal and State permit limitations.

The Division of Water is responsible for almost 37 miles of water distribution mains with  almost 800 main line valves and over 465 fire hydrants with over 2,200 residential and commercial service connections. Three elevated storage towers located out in the distribution system provide storage of 1,400,000 gallons of water.

The waterworks facility located on N. High St. was originally constructed in 1917 but provided no treatment, only pumping facilities. In 1934 lime and soda softening facilities were added to provide better quality water to the residents. Then, in 1985, a water treatment plant upgrade increased its production capacity from 350,000 to 720,000 gallons of water per day.

On July 11, 2006, a groundbreaking was held for a more modern facility that would be able to accommodate up to two million gallons of water per day. On July 31, 2007, the new plant became a reality when Canal Winchester’s Division of Water began serving residents from the new Roy Crist Water Treatment Complex. The new plant, located behind the historic plant, changed the softening process from lime-soda to ion exchange, similar to home softening units. The new process is easier to operate and reduces the by-product waste stream requiring expensive disposal techniques.
