    TOPIC:  Opportunity for residents to informally speak with City of Canal Winchester Council Member(s)

    For the June 23rd Town Hall Meeting, the public is invited to give public comment by visiting the Canal Winchester Community Center (22 South Trine Street). The public will be able to view the meeting and virtually communicate with City Council from this location.  Residents who wish to speak or ask a question of council must sign-in with the Clerk prior to the start of the meeting.

    The public may also view the meeting remotely using the Go-To-Meeting platform from a computer, tablet or smartphone or dial in to listen.  Please note, in this format, video and audio of the meeting will be available as the meeting takes place, however, viewers will not have microphone or webcam permissions, and therefore will not be able to vocally interact. Written comments may be submitted through the city website until 3:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
    Monday, June 29, 2020 6:00 pm
    Location: Council Members at Town Hall (10 N. High) and Public at Community Center (22 S. Trine) 

    RE: To discuss a Notice of Appeal regarding the approval of Variance Application VA-20-002 by the Canal Winchester Planning and Zoning Commission to allow internally illuminated signage at 6600 Bigerton Bend which is restricted by Chapter 1189.06(c) of the Canal Winchester Zoning Code. Applicant: DaNite Sign Company; Property Owner: Crossroads Christian Church. Due to COVID-19 and social distancing requirements, the meeting will not be open to the public. The public is invited to give public comments at the meeting by visiting the Community Center (22 S. Trine St, Canal Winchester, Ohio) to speak virtually to City Council. The application is available for public review at the city municipal building during normal business hours.

    GENERAL NOTICE - CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS 
    Until further notice, all City Council Work Sessions and Regular City Council Meetings (held at 6pm and 7pm respectively on the first and third Mondays of each month) will be conducted online using the "Go-To-Meeting" platform.  To view meetings from a computer, tablet or smartphone, residents may log in using the unique gotomeeting link provided with the published meeting agenda.

    Note: In this format, video and audio of the meeting will be available as the meeting takes place, however, viewers will not have microphone or webcam permissions.  An audio-only telephone option will also be available, however, callers will enter the meeting in listen-only mode.

Street Tree Advisory Board

The Street Tree Advisory Board was created by the city via Ordinance 38-92 on April 20, 1992. The Board consists of five (5) members who are citizens of the City of Canal Winchester, to be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council of the City of Canal Winchester, Ohio.

It is the mission and charge of the Street Tree Advisory Board, to serve as an advisory panel of interested citizens to preserve, protect, enhance, and perpetuate our trees, forests and plants. They are committed to oversight and review of futuristic policies to further the goals of the advisory panel.

The preservation and enhancement of our trees, forests, and foliage is of paramount importance to our community. Environmental, aesthetic, and cultural factors dictate that positive and ongoing policies and programs be sustained and formulated to ensure that our community remains environmentally stable, pleasant and attractive.

Street Tree Advisory Board meets the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m.

Personnel Board of Review

The Personnel Board of Review was formed in 2011 pursuant to our Charter to establish procedures whereby appointments and promotions are made according to merit and fitness; to establish methods for the courses and procedures for the dismissal, suspension and other disciplinary action against employees in the classified service; provide an equal opportunity to all citizens to compete for employment on the basis of demonstrated merit and fitness, ascertained to the extent practicable by competitive examination; and to provide a forum to hear appeals from administrative determinations made by the Code of Personnel Practices.

Personnel Board of Review meets on as needed basis. All agendas will be posted on the website and the meetings are open to the public.

Programs & Services

The Canal Winchester Industry and Commerce Corporation is a public private partnership that has been designated by the City as agent for the City’s industrial, commercial, distribution and research development. They have created an Economic Development Plan for the City’s industrial, commercial, distribution and research development in order to create jobs and employment opportunities and improve the economic welfare of the community. Overview

The Canal Winchester Landmarks Commission shall be to consider and take action on applications for Certificates of Appropriateness for properties within the Historic District and Preservation District, in conformance with the provisions of the Old Town Overlay District, and the Canal Winchester Old Town Guidelines. They shall also be responsible for:

  • Cause or assist in conducting continuing survey(s) of cultural resources within the Municipality, according to guidelines established by the Ohio Historical Preservation Office.
  • Make recommendations for designation of local landmarks, Historic Districts, and the Preservation District.
  • Advise officials and municipal departments regarding protection of local cultural resources.
  • Work toward the continuing education of citizens regarding historic preservation issues and concerns.

Overview

The Canal Winchester Planning and Zoning Commission shall have the responsibility to initiate amendments to the provisions of the zoning code and official zoning map and to review all proposed amendments of this zoning code and zoning map and to forward recommendations to Council.

They also review all proposed development plans, and act upon applications for variances and conditional use permits in accordance with the zoning code. They administer the provisions of Canal Winchester’s Subdivision Regulations in consideration of major subdivisions and make recommendations on platting to Council.

The Planning Commission is also charged with preparing and making recommendations on a Comprehensive Plan for the city to include the layout of streets, bridges, utilities, and public lands.
